Key Information

Phd programme jointly established by Politecnico di Torino, Università degli Studi di Torino, Consorzio Interuniversitario per l'Alta Formazione in Matematica and Istituto Nazionale di Alta Matematica partially funded by the European Union - NextGenerationEU

Starting from XXXVI cycle the PhD program in Pure and Applied Mathematics is managed by a Consortium among the Politecnico di Torino, University of Torino and the Istituto Nazionale di Alta Matematica "F. Severi" (INdAM), Rome.

The goal of the PhD program in Pure and Applied Mathematics is to  promote, organize, and manage the activities of the graduate students (third level of higher education, according to the Bologna Process) in order to achieve the title of PhD in Mathematics and its applications.

The  research themes of the program belong to the classes PE1, SH4 and SH6 of the research areas of the European Research Council  and are recognized in HORIZON 2020, and cover all areas of pure and applied mathematics: Logics, Algebra, Geometry, Mathematical Analysis and PDE's, Probability, Statistics, Mathematical Physics, Numerical Analysis, Math. education, History of Mathematics, with a broad range of applications, including science, engineering, architecture, urban planning, medicine, pharmacy, economics.

The PhD  program combines disciplinary specialization and a variety of theoretical and methodological approaches.

It provides  the PhD students with a preparation useful both in the academic research and the applications of mathematics to the  private sector  (such as bio- and nanotechnology, pharmaceutical companies, management, health organizations, etc.).

The PhD program will promote collaborations with international experts and  institutions, within a program of international cotutele.

A variety of advanced courses will be offered every year. For each student, the training offered by this program is mainly based on an original research project, under the supervision of a tutor, and on the guidance of the Board,  which is expected  to  lead to publications in international scientific journals. The thesis defense constitutes the final step in achieving the PhD. The skills expected at the end of doctoral course are in line with those provided by the "Dublin Descriptors"  (3rd   cycle) in  the area of  mathematics. The PhD program is joint project between the *Politecnico di Torino* and the *Università di Torino*.
